Initial Goals

Learn about your internship
• What are your supervisor’s expectations? What you will be doing?
I will be assisting in the promotions of Wired 96.5 and 92.5 XTU.  I have not begun my internship yet, I begin it on Wednesday, January 23rd, and at that time I will have more details of my supervisors expectations.  As of right now, all I know is that I am required to work one day a week in the office from 10am-3pm, and we have a meeting scheduled for every Wednesday.  At the Wednesday meetings, we pick what events for the weekend we are able to attend, for that is the majority of our work.
• Reflect upon communication with your supervisor. How will you ask for feedback?
I intend to get as much feedback about my performance on the job as possible.  I have learned from my last internship, that it is okay to be upfront when asking for feedback, because it shows the employer that you care about your work, and that you are looking for ways to constantly improve yourself and your work.
• How do you ask for a more challenging assignment?
This can be tricky.  When you believe you are ready for a more challenging task, it is okay to ask your supervisor.  However, you cannot take it offensively when they shoot you down, because they know the job required, and simply may not believe you are ready yet.  However, it never hurts to ask.
• How do you ask for clarification or help?
If you do not understand directions you have been given, always ask for clarification.  It does not make you look dumb, it just shows that you want to do the best job possible, the first time.  Asking questions again show the employer your eagerness to get the job done right.  From my first internship, I have learned this, and believe I will not be shy when it comes to asking questions this time around.
• Can you turn down a request?
If I believe I will not be able to fulfill a task that is asked of me, I do not know that I will turn it down, I think it would be better to try the task and ask for help.  Expressing my concerns with the task upfront will be something that I would do, but I believe if my supervisor asks me to do a task, it is because she wants to see me challenge myself, and knows that I will be able to fulfill the task.
            • How will you react to negative feedback or handle errors?
No one is perfect.  I am aware of that, and while negative feedback is never good to receive, in the long run it will help you improve.  Internships are all about learning experiences in the work field.  I will talk all feedback, and learn from it, and attempt to fix my errors to the best of my ability.

Set your internship goals
• How will your internship help you develop career-related experiences?
Again, I have already completed one internship.  That internship gave me one view of jobs in the communications field.  This internship is completely different, and I hope to gain another prospective on what I can do with my communications degree.  My experiences from both internships will carry me through life, and help me in the long run in the working field.
• How will your internship assist you in developing valuable knowledge and skills related to your field?
This internship is along the lines of what I would like to do with my degree upon my graduation.  My first internship helped show me what I can do in marketing and advertising.  This internship will teach me about the promotions field, and hopefully give me the upper hand when looking for a job.
• What is your networking plan?
I plan to network when possible, and as much as possible.  A large portion of this internship has to deal with attending weekend events.  These are a great opportunity to network, and meet people in the communications field.  I intend on creating my own website, that will showcase what work I have done, and also creating personal business cards to hand to people I meet.  While these are my intentions, I will have to wait and see what happens, and remember to remain professional while still working and networking.
• What do you want to gain from your internship?
I hope to gain another prospective of the communications field.  Ultimately, it would be nice to get a job, however again I am open to whatever happens.  Like always, I will work my hardest, and show the promotions department at Wired 96.5 and 92.5 XTU what I am made of.
• Beyond enhancing your resume with career-related experiences and building contacts for a future job search, are there any other valuable goals your internship can help you attain?
Internships can help you gain a perspective of what the working world, and working in an office is like.  At my last internship, I experienced a lot, from working on site, to lay offs that happened in the department.  I believe internships; help you realize what the working world is like, and things like lay offs, and changes in the employees of a department that you don’t expect to experience.
