I have to agree with this article. As a female, it is hard to distingush right from wrong in the work place when it comes to attire. While James McDonald, Jr. says that the easiest way to decide is to look around the work place, it is not that cut and dry. Going in to your first day of work, you want to make a good impression, however what do you wear. You can't assess your work places dress code without going to the work place first. This leaves one in a predicament. Dressing to fancy may come off that you are trying to hard, while not dressing up enough may make it seems like you simply don't care about your job opportunity. I believe this article makes it seem simple to be a female in the work place, and get up everyday to get ready. It is not. This doesn't just start in the morning when you are going to work, but in the store as well when you are trying to purchase your work place appropriate clothing. As stated in the article, men do not have as wide a selection as females, but I must disagree and state that they have more than two options. While I believe it is stressful for both men and women to choose work place appropriate clothing, I believe that the female has it harder.
The dress code for my work place is pretty laid back. We are allowed to wear jeans, and sneakers if we would like, but most wore boots. We can wear anything from a t-shirt to a nicer dress shirt for the top. We are told to wear what we would like, as long as we are still able to move around. At some times, our job requires lifting, so for our shoes, we must wear something in which we are comfortable doing lifting and moving.
I just started my internship on Wednesday, and I am extremly excited to see where this opportunity will take me. I worked my first office hours on Wednesday after our staff meeting, and will be helping with my first event Saturday night. Wish me luck!
Hours Worked:
